Northwoods Battered Women’s Shelter is currently seeking a half time/fill-in Advocate!

Position requires:

  • DHS background study
  • valid driver’s license
  • problem solving skills
  • ability to work independently
  • experience working with diverse populations
  • excellent communication skills

Preferred qualifications:

  • domestic violence experience
  • completion, or working towards, a degree in human services field
  • Motivational Interviewing certification

Wage and benefits:

  • $14.00/hour
  • employer sponsored SEP IRA
  • PTO and holiday pay

Shifts/schedule:

  • at least 20 hours/week; more hours available when filling in
  • half time shifts 5 hours
  • fill in shifts are 11 and up to 12.5 hours in length
  • 1-2 weekends/month
  • varied schedule
  • set scheduling pattern; with exception of fill-in shifts

Duties include:

  • Assisting individuals in crisis, both over the phone and in person
  • Providing advocacy to individuals such as assisting with accessing legal, medical, housing, and other social services and public assistance, filling out orders for protection/harassment orders, providing education to service providers and community members, providing transportation or accompaniment, and much more
  • Completion of program records such as statistical tracking, internal agency documents, and written communications with team
  • Food preparation and assisting with facility cleaning and maintenance
